Practice life in the garden – Planting spring onions

A little while ago I wrote about regrowing spring onions from scraps. We have now moved our spring onions to a pot and are growing them outside on our deck.

Spring onions don’t need a whole lot to grow. A small pot and some suitable potting mix was all that we needed. Havvie filled up the little pot by scooping in the potting mix. I placed the roots and an inch of the base of the spring onion in little holes I made with my finger, making sure the top of the spring onion was still visible. Finally Havvie finished off by watering the plant.

Spring onions grow really quickly and it’s fun going outside to see how much they’ve grown everyday. We also use sorting onions regularly in our recipes and it feels good to grow our own food!
